Thread: Miraphone 56a dating

  1. Miraphone 56a dating

I saw a Miraphone 56a kaiser baritone that looks different from what you see on the miraphone site https://www.miraphone.de/instruments...t-4-valves-103

The one I saw has the round finger paddles instead of the elongated ones, and the 3rd valve slide goes around behind the valves and up rather than out in front and down. The engraving is Miraphone, not Mirafone. Does that help tie down the time frame of this instrument?

I want to say the clock springs and s-linkages mean 1960s or earlier, but I'm not sure. "Mirafone" would indicate an older instrument that was built to be exported to the US, so the lack of that spelling could mean that it was built for the european market rather than indicating a specific year.

  3. Ok, thanks, that seems to make sense. I notice that it also says Made in Germany, "G.L. Adams" on the bell under the Miraphone mountain, or whatever that is. I don't have access to the serial number at this point.
