    First ITEC 2019

Me and a friend of mine are planning to attend ITEC this year in Iowa.
Obviously the Adams booth is on our list as well as Miraphone and Willson.
We have limited time so just curious if there's any suggestions as to how to streamline our experience...

The best time to visit Miraphone would be when one of the more popular tuba artists is doing a recital. That will get a lot of tuba players out of your hair so you can hear the euphonium.

For Adams and Willson that same tactic might mean you giving up a chance to hear a euphonium artist you'd like to hear. But it is one option.

In general, another good time might be when a mass ensemble is rehearsing (those times will be in the booklet).

Sometimes you can have good luck showing up as soon as the exhibits open in the morning.

For most of your testing you need a large shank mouthpiece. But if you want to test the Willson 2900 you'd need a medium shank.

I suggest you look at this article as well, to develop an efficient strategy for testing. Pay attention to the "Variety..." section. Choose music to play that you know well enough to play consistently, and music that shows you a lot quickly. You want to find the horn that helps you sound the way you want, and that gets you there without undue effort.

Hello David and all, I be the friend that Jerry is referring to. Please stop us to say Hi! ... I am easy to spot... Silver hair, dark-cool shades, wielding a 5'4" long white cane with my left hand, and tethered to Jerry's left elbow with my right. Jerry will be the one who appears to know where he is walking, I instead... Not so much *Grins!*

Very excited to attend a low brass conference for the first time, and mayhaps play test euphos and tubas from Adams, Miraphone, Wessex, and others... and make new friends in the process.

BTW David, my screen reader software did not detect a link to the article you mentioned in your post... Would you mind posting the actual raw URL?

Sometimes I leave out links! (And even more often I forget attachments for email.)

Sorry about that. Here is the link:

So which is the most FUN; IET or ITEC? I could afford only one.

Good question, Dennis. I have only been to ITEC and am going to ITEC this year (late May / early June). ITEC appears "bigger". But really don't know.

I think IET is more personalized, but not as large. They sure have a good choice of artists, though.

ITEC is more jam packed with recitals and presentations, and they are the best place to shop for horns, mouthpieces, etc.

BTW, I'll be doing a recital/presentation on the euphonium family (program attached) at ITEC.

Will any of the recitals or presentations be recorded or live-streamed, for those of us who can't attend?
                  Wessex Dolce

"Suppose we have only dreamed, or made up, all those things -- trees and grass and sun and moon and stars and Aslan himself. Suppose we have. Then all I can say is that, in that case, the made-up things seem a good deal more important than the real ones." - Puddleglum in "The Silver Chair"

I'm not sure, but my guess is "no." If I find out more I'll let you know, but I'm having trouble getting responses from the conference coordinators right now (I'm trying to move my recital to a better room).

For past conferences, I don't recall seeing an online link.

Do you know yet what the day and time is for your recital? Linda and I will be there. You are a brave soul for allowing the audience to play your horns. Especially the E3. I don't know if I could be quite so generous. I notice your usual accompanist for your YouTube postings is going to be there. Very nice. Get to see you both.

I'm still negotiating. They had originally scheduled me at 4:30 on Saturday (not a great time, if people are going to get supper and come back for the gala concert at 7:30), and it was in a classroom. They thought I was doing only a presentation due to miscommunications. The only thing I know for sure is that it will be in the daytime. I proposed 3 other times with no visible conflicts for the Recital Hall or other events (I'm not going to try this at the same time as one of the Mead events, for example). I'll announce on the forum when it is finalized.
