I just got my copy of a TERRIFIC CD by Mark Jenkins (U.S. Marine Band). It is an instructive/demonstration recording of how to play 26 common euphonium excerpts. Mark discusses various aspects of style and then plays the excerpts. He gives an outstanding example of professional euphonium playing, and this CD is an invaluable resource for euphoniumists! Mark asked for my input before finalizing the CD and accepted my (FEW) suggestions graciously.
Here is a personal back-story. In the early days of Cimarron taking over publication of the Euphonium Excerpt Book that I helped produce, Cimarron's previous owner, the late Bob Brule, suggested I make a recording of the excerpts. At the time I was deep into the computer/business world and didn't feel I was in good enough playing shape to do justice to the recording. But I never completely forgot the idea, even though it would be a daunting task to get the excerpts recorded. It stuck with me because I agreed with Bob that such a recording would be valuable. With this release, I have relief! Mark has done such a fine job of interpreting and playing that I feel no need whatsoever to try recording the excerpts myself (and Mark has covered most of the excerpts that I would have chosen to play).
Here is the link to obtain this CD from Adam Frey's store (and support a euphonium-specific and euphoniumist-run web store, which also is a sponsor this forum!!):
