The only thing I can think you might NOT practice much is the section of duets. Scales, arpeggios, tonguing, rhythms, ornaments, cadenzas, slow songs, long etudes and solos in the back. But to get maximum benefit you might need some instruction.

    I strongly recommend this CD:

The section on Arban single-tongue exercises was a true epiphany for me! It'll show you a whole way to practice.

Eupher Alejandro Guardia has almost all the duets on YouTube. First he plays both parts, split-screen. Then he plays the top part and the viewer plays the bottom part; then he reverses parts. Here's a link to duet #1.

  5. If you want to work on tone and consistency, the simple exercises at the beginning of the book are pretty good for that

I bought an ebook called The Arban Manual by Eric Bolvin last year. It contains a number of lessons, each of which consists of exercises from different parts of the book. So you get a warm up, then some scales, then syncopation and a few songs. Each one gets harder. I'm up to lesson 8 as I tend to stay on them for about a month, it gives me a solid workout at the start of a practise

Be advised that the page numbers in the Arban Manual lessons do not match the page numbers in either the white-covered Randall - Mantia version or the Alessi - Bowman edition. You have to go to the page number listed in the lesson, and then go farther to find the desired exercise.

For those who are interested, the Arban Manual is available thru Amazon in the Kindle format. I now have it on both my old Kindle and my phone

Has the manual Been helpful? The reviews seem to be mixed. I'm considering getting it since I'm been practicing random parts on my own.

I've only done the first two lessons, which I copied off a faded-out sample .pdf. That was enough to convince me that I would like it better having my own copy and be able to do the whole thing. Other people's mileage may vary, but I don't have a teacher to work with, so the manual may provide some of the discipline that I am lacking.
