Thread: FS: Willson 4-Valve NON-Compensating Euphonium - Nice!

Thumbs up FS: Willson 4-Valve NON-Compensating Euphonium - Nice!

For those who want a pro-quality horn but who don't like the compensating system, this might be the instrument for you. A former colleague in the band, Roger Behrend (who went on to be soloist with the Navy Band), loved this horn and said it played like the 2900 but was non compensating. It does share the same bore measurements as the 2900, I believe. Condition looks quite good and a hard case is included. Buy-it-now price is $1,999, and there IS a make-offer button.

    ITEM SOLD FOR $1,600

There are people who don't like the compensating system? Is there a downside to the comp system that I do not know off? I am curious now.

A non comp will blow more freely...all things being equal. It's the same reason many first/lead trombone players don't have a trigger on their horns.

I find this to be true, but I play music that goes downstairs pretty often, so the compensating horn is the best choice for me.

Ah, I see. That make sense. Thanks for the explanation! Now I finally understand why I saw some of my 1st trombone players don't have a trigger.

I play a non compensating horn most of the time because I'd rather have 4 valves in a row than use my left hand. I added a 5th valve to my King 2280. Yes, it's operated with my left thumb, but it's rare that I have to use it

Cool! Love the sound of the Kings. Great to have that 5th valve I'm sure!

it's a good horn. as an added bonus...

    1. It has superb intonation
    2. the valves are lighter and shorter action than any compensating horn I've ever played
    3. it sits a little taller than most, which is nice for my 6 foot 8 frame

I purchased this one at a decent discount to the original BIN price. I should receive it today, can't wait to give it a try!
