What is your question? Do you want information about the company? Or is there something in particular about this horn that you want to know about?

  4. Vincent, It would be "Hawkes and Son", one of the predecessors to Boosey& Hawkes and Besson. A serial number list can be found here: http://www.horn-u-copia.net/serial/Hawkeslist.html.

You didn't say what the serial number is but the following might give you a sense of the age of your horn.

    year number
    1895 11177
    1900 18020
    1905 21993
    1913 39782
    1920 42159
    1921 44368
    1922 45069
    1925 51635
    1930 60626

More information about Hawkes and Son can be found at various locations. From today's Boosey & Hawkes website:

"Hawkes & Son was founded in 1865 by William Henry Hawkes. The company followed a rival course to Boosey & Company, concentrating on band and orchestral music publishing, but also diversifying into the manufacture of instruments, fittings and reeds. Over the next 60 years, the company continued to develop its publishing activities"

I have one very similar ca. 1918, a 3&1 solid old euph.

Hawkes merged with Boosey in the 1930's.

Hard to believe their factory was in Piccadilly Circus in London.

I presume this is a high pitch...Is there a special "methode" for increase the tubing lengh? Or using diapason for each notes before ?Vincent

    Mine was built in A440.

If yours is built in A452 or thereabouts, pulling slides may not get enough tubing in the game and it will need "surgical grafts".

Diapason is an interesting word to use here, doesn't really relate in English; Fingering won't fix it, it's not up to a B natural bugle.
