Dave Werden - Handel Air and Variations

I've loved this solo ever since I heard it on Paul Droste's first LP! It has been done in a different arrangement ("The Harmonious Blacksmith") by players such as Arthur Lehman, but this one is by Bernard Fitzgerald. This version is on many state contest lists and should be playable by most good players. We did this as an offering at church a couple weeks ago. This is played on my loaner horn, an Adams E2 in .60 yellow brass, with a brushed finish.

Sheet music is here (treble clef only):

Loaner horn, oh-oh! What happened to your E3? Nice solo Dave, by the way.

My horn had a bit of a buzz from the bell-rim wire. Not sure if it "just developed" or if it was related to a fall off a chair (in the gig bag, but it creased the bell slightly). I took it to a local guy to fix. He was recommended by the tubist in the MN Orch. I asked him to fix the rim and also to tighten a couple tuning slides. The slides came out perfectly, but he damaged the bell. The tool he used left a deep groove all the way around the bell! So the horn is now in Holland getting fixed.

Ouch, double ouch, and maybe even triple ouch!!! So sorry to hear of that. I have had my Adams E3 two years this past May, so almost 2 1/2 years. Nary a scratch, run, drip, error, giblet, dent, cootie, wart, crease or other noxious thing on it yet. Knock on wood!!!!!!!!! I suppose in time something will happen, and I am probably getting more nervous about it as time goes on. In another few years I feature myself living the life of Howard Hughes, all locked up in a building/room with my horn and me, in a padded room with no hard surfaces and my finger nails about 5 inches long (you have to have read the story). Kind of hard to play like that, I will probably just mount it on the wall and look at it. Nah, I enjoy playing it too much. I will just continue to be careful and hope good fortune is on my side.
