Shipping euphonium with practice mute - bad idea?

Hey Guys - I was going to sell a euphonium I'm no longer using, along with the old style Denis Wick practice mute. The gig bag I have is big enough to permit keeping the practice mute in the bell. Now I've seen people advocate the use of some sort of cone device to keep the edges of the bell away from the case to prevent damage from shipping, which this will certainly do. But my 6th sense is telling me that this is a bad idea. Have any of you ever shipped a euphonium like this successfully? I would appreciate hearing any positive or negative stories, etc.

    Thanks so much as always

The advice would apply to hard cases where the mute would help keep the bell rim from hitting the end of the case. And that, or course, would only work for the mutes that extend an inch or so. The old DW mutes extend much more than that. Combined with shipping within a soft bag, there is a general lack of stability that would concern me. My 6th sense says "no" unless I don't have all the details.
