Benediction - John Stevens - solo with piano or organ?

I stumbled on a recording of Thomas Rüedi playing "Benediction" (John Stevens) with marimba accompaniment. This sounds great! It's in a bit lower key than the tuba quartet version recorded so wonderfully by "Sotto Voce". I think this may work with piano or organ but I can't find the sheet music for it. I'm sometimes asked to play in church for a memorial service and I think this could be perfect. "The Lord's Prayer" is a wonderful standby, but "Benediction" could be a great alternative. Thanks for any help.

Very nice, I'd like to see the sheet music for this too. I've put together a euphonium tuba quartet to play this for a Memorial Day service a couple of years ago. I've also heard of a version where the top two parts are played on trumpets, the third by a euphonium and the fourth by a tuba. I think they changed to key it was played in, but it sounded wonderful.

    Rick,

Well, perhaps try Thomas himself. His website is: https://www.thomasruedi.net/ He has contact info there. Perhaps he himself did the arrangement? Or he might be able to get what he played to you, who knows. Worth a try probably.

Well it appears this arrangement is not available for purchase. I reached out to Mr. Thomas Rüedi about this arr. and he got back to me. He said that John Stevens adapted “Benediction” for ‘Duo Synthesis’ but did not not want it published or shared. That’s understandable given the original for tuba quartet is so great that he doesn’t want risking it being spoiled in any way.

  5. On a similar note, I discovered recently that John Stevens has arranged "Benediction" for concert band. It's a great arrangement for middle/high school bands.

I found that, too. We are ordering it (J.W. Pepper) for our New Horizons Band.

There's also this arrangement for tentet, which is lovely and features solo French horn.

Last month I attended my granddaughter's H.S. graduation in Raleigh, NC where the HS band (minus seniors) played this arrangement. They did a good job too. It was well received. The euphs played their part as soli. I think we need to order this arrangement too.

Our band did get this arrangement and we have played it a few times in rehearsal. It is a nice piece. The solos at the start and end are for baritones, but there are cues for the solos in 2 or 3 other instruments (clarinet, trumpet, etc.). Clearly best with the baritones (euphoniums), a little bias here perhaps. The solo at the start allows whoever is playing it the freedom to play it however they like, it is without accompaniment. And you could have one instrument/player do the opening solo, then another instrument/player do the one at the end.
