Leonard Bernstein would have turned 100 this year.

What got me interested in music back in the late '50s early '60s was watching the "Young People's Concert" by the N.Y. Phil. with maestro Leonard Bernstein on the podium. I think I was 10 or 11 watching with my folks on a black and white TV (only 3 channels). To this day, I remember maestro Bernstein talking about and performing "William Tell Overture". My favorite TV program back then was "The Lone Ranger". Maybe some older forum members will remember this. Our band is playing, Overture to "Candide" at our next concert series in celebration of what would have been his 100th birth year. Really looking forward to this.

From 1960, Overture to "Candide" - Leonard Bernstein:

Thanks, Rick - good memories! The Overture to Candide is a cool piece that we played in college and in the Coast Guard. In fact, it was SO cool that Dick Cavett used the main line for his theme song - slightly jazzed up! You can hear it come in & out during this closing snippet:

That's pretty cool. Heard it before but never made the connection.

One of our horn players who used to play in the New York area shared this fantastic performance by just horns (arr. by Warren Deck).

Wow! That horn recording is a fun ride. Reminds of my CD of the London Horn Sound.

@rickf - Thanks for the reminder bud. I hope 2018 is not like 2016. Already a few legends have passed away. Like Avicii (Dance musician).
