    Logan Willis - Beautiful Colorado

Hi all - Solo and Ensemble Competition #2 is in a few weeks. This is a recording of his 3rd practice run with the Piano. Sorry it's a bit quiet - still getting used to the new microphone. (Zoom iQ7 on an iphone7...the wind screen was a bad idea indoors.)

Logan is 16 and a Junior in High School. Positive and negative feedback is welcome, he chose to interpret the piece slightly different than normal.

    Excellent job!

His pitch and articulation are very good.

As he matures, and builds the power side of performing he will become a great player.

Sorry, the link is not working for me. When I click on it, the URL is different than shown in the text. So I copied the text and put it in address bar - I get oops, not found or something.

All I get is a tiny dot in the middle of the screen. Sorry. Maybe it's me.

I'll attach the entire link here as a raw text file (so the forum software does not mess with it). Try copying it from there.

I cant' listen to it yet from where I am, but will try later. In the meantime, the attached link might get Rick there.

Thanks Dave. That works. I just copied the first line of all that text and pasted into browser (FF) and went there. Let me see if I can post a direct link:

Nope, didn't work. When I previewed the link it worked, but once I posted it the software seems to add a bunch of characters. See below:

Let me see if I can get a link with Bitly by shortening it. Okay, that seems to work. I'll edit Jake's post with the short link from Bitly.

Just listened to the recording. Logan did a good job. The tone sounds stuffy but I suspect it's in a small room or... maybe mic placement was just off. Here's that link again:

It is probably stuffy because I thought the wind filter looked cool and the mic was resting against my bag. :/

I just bought a jellyfish stand for my tripod. It holds my phone correctly, and I can use my phone on my regular or mini tripod now with ease. That should help.

This is really great so far! I thought the second variation went especially well.

The biggest thing that stood out to be was the rhythm at around the 4:20 mark. It's coming across as a triplet rhythm, and I don't believe it's written that way? (It's been a while since I played this, so I may be wrong!)

You mentioned your son is trying to interpret this a little differently, so is this one of those spots? If so, that's probably OK, however, it needs to be the same both times he plays it. Right now, it almost sounds as if it's in 6/8 the first time, and than in 3/4 when he plays it slower on the repeat.

                        Keep up the great work!
