Baritone Horn Solo Music - Share your Recommendations!

I am on the prowl to build up my collection of baritone horn solos and was wondering if anyone has some ideas.

For next year, I have two pieces organised;

Lied - Eugene Bozza (originally for Trumpet)
Valse Caprice - Percy Code (in a book of 11 solos originally for Cornet)

The second is for the Australian National Brass Band Competition 2018, in Melbourne, however I also have other eisteddfods and competitions I want to attend so I need more music.

So what would you suggest? Anything (slow melodies included) is good and I am at a grade 7(wish) standard.

The Neruda Trumpet Concerto works really well on baritone. The second movement, in particular, is lovely if you are looking for a slow melody piece. You can find it on http://www.freesheetmusic.net/neruda...n%20E-flat.pdf .

Ellerby Baritone Concerto

In recitals I like to pull in one or two selections from popular or Broadway music. Here are some that I have done over the years:

Most times the sheet music link is available if you read the whole YouTube description. And most of those links are to a piano/vocal score. The beauty of today's world (also a curse in some ways) is that you can buy sheet music online and download it immediately. Most of what I play on the list above was as piano with vocal in concert pitch. So I had to mentally transpose up a step from the vocal part to put myself in the right place for a treble clef player (which, at heart, I am). However, the price is quite low for these songs, and many offer the ability to transpose to any key. If you are not comfortable with the transposition I just described, you can order 2 copies. Get one to print in the concert key you choose and use that copy for the piano, and print the other up a full step so you can read it easily. But in the long run it is good for any of us to lean to play from a concert-pitch vocal part so we can open a whole new realm of choices!

The Ellerby concerto is one on my list to look at; it's certainly going to take some work if I get it!

I hadn't thought about reading up on concert-pitch parts; that will make things a lot easier! Years of Christmas carol events have taught me that skill so I shall apply it to other performances.

Apologies for the replying to an older thread, but I wanted to add my recommendation for the Ellerby Concerto. It's definitely a challenge but a very enjoyable work to learn!

I would also recommend looking up recordings of Katrina Marzella, she has some wonderful repertoire on Youtube and her CD album (which includes the Ellerby)
