    Hidas Euphonium Concerto

    Hi, all...

I have been noticing that my recording of the Frigyes Hidas euphonium concerto has been receiving a large number of listens of late on Soundcloud. Thanks for listening!!

Is that piece required for some competition or audition? Or are people just enjoying the performance?

If you've stopped by to listen, please feel free to offer your opinions. I played it with three different college/community groups shortly after it came out and it's still in my memory bank. I like its melodicism. I honestly can't remember which performance it was. Old age.

There are 13 or so LIVE performances at www.soundcloud.com/jweuph .

Rock, Jazz, Dixie, Goodman, solos with brass band, couple of concertos with wind ensemble, playing french horn part on a Canadian Brass chart, etc.

Many are my charts as well. Mostly not traditional euph stuff.
Performances of more "serious" stuff on a Miraphone 5050 or Sovereign 968. Pop and jazz on my trusty Yamaha 321.
Eric Ewazen was in the audience for the performance of his superb concerto.

      Enjoy...comments welcome. Remember...live!

If you're curious as to why, it's likely because the piece was chosen as the prelim piece for the Falcone Artist division, so plenty of people are looking for recordings.

          Great playing, Jim!

            Hi, Jason...
Guess that explains the large number of hits...Thanks for the kind word on the playing! I've stopped doing most "serious" literature in favor of the pop and jazz stuff, but I keep Hidas in the memory bank. Audiences like it. That performance was on a Sovereign 968 IIRC.
            Appreciate the info!
