Jazz euphonium in big band! Andy Hunter w/ WDR Big Band

This chart, "Cyanophaia Bicolor", is an upbeat Latin groove chart with a heavy "tropical" feel throughout. It features an odd trio of instruments: recorder, sopranino saxophone, and the euphonium!

I always was a huge fan of this group, as well as Andy Hunter's trombone solos in their recordings, so this was a real treat for me.

    Hope you enjoy it!

Awesome recording, all great players. I love jazz euphonium. The instrument can "do it all". No limit to its versatility. What a great horn we have!!

The guy playing bass trombone on this vid is a MONSTER of jazz tuba and cimbasso. He goes either by quesonegro or cimbassist on YT.
    Check him out, too!!
Great tune. Yes, euph is a great pop & jazz horn!!

For anybody that likes jazz euph, check out the new CD by David Bandman. This is a link to a sampler on his website

I don't remember if I ever watched the original WDR Big Band video from this thread, but today I stumbled across a video from the same band, completely by accident (my spouse thought they had sent me a link to the original Ding Dong the Witch is Dead from Wizard of Oz). It was too serendipitous not to share! There is a nice euphonium solo near the beginning of the tune. Enjoy!
