You Raise Me Up - with wind band

I stumbled on this interesting recording of "You Raise Me Up" with wind band. Can't figure out who arranged it but looks like it's out of Japan. //-edit-// Arranger is Takashi Hoshide. Pretty sure the soloist is Shoichiro Hokazono.

Wow! I kind of like that. It does have a busy accompaniment, but very nice euphonium playing. I had a girl friend that looked just like the girl in the video. Never could get her to talk.

That is a NICE arrangement. At first, given the picture of Atsuka, I thought it might be from the second season of Hibike! Euphonium, but then I saw it was posted in March of last year. I'm going to pass the link to a Japanese friend and see if he can find the name of the arranger.

My source tells me that the arranger was Shoichiro Hokazono.

Thanks, Rick! That is very fine "bandstration" in the video!

Ha-ha, Dave! We used almost the same word in college: orchestration, bandestration, and choralestration

Thanks DaveBJ, but I think your friend must have meant the solo performer was by Shoichiro Hokazono. I found the arranger to be Takashi Hoshide. It seems like Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra played this too - probably with Toru Miura playing the solo. I can't find a video of this, only a pdf file with program listing. When I did a 'google translate' yesterday, the only name I got from the text in the video linked above was Mr. Ichiro Oshiro. I think maybe the credit might be wrong as it sure sounds like Mr. Hokazono.

I did find the sheet music available in Germany and France, but haven't found it yet here in the states. I'll see if Bravo Music can get it if anyone here wants it. Below is a link where you can listen to an excerpt AND view the complete score (click note icon under mp3). If you look in the middle of the score, you'll see 'Solo Instrument'. It looks very doable - grade 3 for band, grade 4 for soloist. Starts in concert Eb, then changes to concert 'F'. The ending cadenza ends on a high 'C', but there's an option to play 'A'.

I did specify "arranger", but he's not a musician, so I guess he just glommed onto the first name he could find.

Hmm, I think I'd buy it, if the price wasn't too outrageous.

$111 + mailing from Europe, not too bad for a complete band chart.
