    Euph Solos/Duets for church?

    Hi all,

I recently picked up the euphonium again, hadn't played since 10th grade. I got myself a YEP-321 for my birthday. Seems like riding a bike - I was amazed at how much I remembered right off the bat (although I am a bit rusty overall... ). The information and discussions on this forum have been very helpful already!

I played along with some hymns at church at the Christmas Eve services, and I'd like to play a few times a year during church services. I recently found out that another member of my congregation has also picked up the euphonium after a long hiatus, and we'd like to find some duets that are beautiful but not especially technically challenging. I'd also like to find some solos to play occasionally.

Please let me know your suggestions! With or without piano accompaniment would be fine.

Find a couple of tuba players and play low brass quartets. Check the music sites there are plant of duets you could do, depending on your capabilities.

      Welcome to the forum.

A fellow eupher and I played a duet in church some years ago, "When Peace Like A River" (It Is Well With My Soul) by Phillip Bliss. This was a duet arrangement by Jay Althouse. I just did a quick search, but can't find in online right now. Sorry.

Always a good source for church duets can be vocal duets.

I've done Bless This House for the very purpose you describe! Here is an arrangement for 2 euphoniums (there is also one for euphonium and tuba):

There are also books of common hymns and descants for them. As a solo, you can play the melody for a verse or two, and then play the descant for the final verse. Or for duets you can mix & match those duties. (The Douglas Smith books are my favorites.)

Sunday School Classics by James Curnow and Paul Curnow. There is a piano accompaniment which you can get or just use the cd track. It also has an option of playing just the top part and have the track play the 2nd part. The neat part about that is you can play a duet with a clarinet, trumpet or flute.

I have a bunch of solos (mainly for trumpet and a couple that's for tenor sax) but here's a couple of other I can think: Fields of Galilee by Mark Hauth & Jeff Nelson. Its for flugelhorn and trumpet but it works well for euphonium. https://www.praisecharts.com/songs/d...e-sheet-music/

Revelation Song, also arranged by Mark Hauth, also for trumpet but works beautifully on euphonium.

Here's an audio recording of myself playing Revelation Song it last year. Bear with the audio quality as I recorded it with my cell phone.

I also have some recordings of myself on my Youtube page as well.

I think we might try that. I've been asking around at church and there are a least 2 people who used to play Tuba. Might be easier to just find someone online who has one and wants to play, rather than talking those two into it.

Valerie Floeter has several collections of hymns for piano/organ and instrument. I've played many of these solos in services before
