    Oskar Bohme Trumpet Concerto

    Hello all,

I want to share a recording from my junior recital this December. The piece is Oskar Bohme's Trumpet Concerto in F minor- in my opinion a wonderful piece of "stolen" music for euphonium. The outer movements present technical and musical challenges whereas the second movement is a beautiful moment of touching music. I opted to not play transitional material from the second to third movement in reference to Timofei Dokshizer's recording and transcribed Armando Ghitalla's cadenza.

I highly recommend this piece to anyone who would like to work on music from the romantic period!

Wow, that was great Jonah! You played with great intonation, technique and phrasing... lots of musicality. It looks like you're playing on a Yamaha 842 custom? If so, great horn. I noticed some alternate fingerings which really work well for you (1-3 for 6th partial Eb) and 4th valve for maybe 6th partial 'F'. The high 'C' (concert) in the cadenza was dead on played open. Everything was played with real confidence. Congrats!

Thanks for sharing. Very worthwhile listening to.

Very nicely done. I listened to this, then to your rendition of September Song by Sparke, which I found on YouTube, which was excellent.

Very nice! I liked the horn bling, too!

I'm glad you chose the Bohme concerto. Euphonium players get stuck in ruts sometimes and this is a nice little change. Also, you can listen to some great trumpet players perform it and get some nice ideas from outside the low & mellow world.

Thank you all for the comments! I am very appreciative of my euphonium professor at the time, Dr. Martin Cochran for introducing me to the piece. There was an equal amount to work on from a musical standpoint as there was technique! I certainly learned a lot through the study of this piece.
