For Sale: Sterling Virtuoso model IV

    *****SOLD****

I'm selling my sterling, as I just switched to a miraphone 5050. It's the model with the trigger and heavy 4th valve cap.

It's currently in getting cleaned/serviced by the delightful Dana Hofer. Price is now 3,300, and includes Marcus Bonna case.

Please read the posts later in the thread describing the horn.

    Buyer pays actual shipping

    Thoughts? Questions?

    Thanks!

    Mike

    Photos below:

Dana does a great job, and this is no exception. The valves are in great shape, the horn is in great shape. There is one small ding in the bell that I have tried to show from both sides. It was present when I purchased the horn.

Also, I just noticed that the zip-off music bag isn't currently on the case, but it will be included.

I'm definetly interested, I'm heading to college next year and need a horn. The Sterling has always been a personal favorite from the samples I've played. What year was the horn made/purchased and from whom?

I purchased it in 2012 from its original owner. (Via tube net) I am the second owner. It was originally purchased new from custom music in 2009.

Answers to some of the questions that were originally asked when I purchased it:

What is the diameter and weight/composition (heavy red brass, heavy yellow, standard red, standard yellow, sterling silver, copper, etc.) of the bell?

-It has a 12" Heavy Red Brass Bell

Do the bottom bow and branches have protective caps, guard wires, or both?

-The branch and bottom bow have both protective caps and guard wires.

Is the leadpipe soldered to the bell, off the bell with a center brace, of off the bell with no center brace?

-The leadpipe is off the bell with the center brace.

Does it have the heavy or the standard valve bottom caps? Do the bottom caps for 1-3 have nipples?

-There is a heavy valve cap on the fourth valve. The valve caps on the first second and third valves are standard with nipples.

Does the trigger stop rod point up or down?

      -The stop rod points up.

Is the trigger adjustment barrel have the quick-release (thumb screw) or is it screw-on?

-Not sure what the difference is but the barrel screws on.

Does the 2nd valve tuning slide have the pull ring or Amado waterkey?

      -Pull ring.

Is the false piece Besson style (attaches in front of the inner branch on the bell side) or Yamaha style (attaches to the side of the inner branch)?

      -Besson style.

I'm out of town over the holiday, but as soon as I get the horn back from its cleaning/servicing, I'll be happy to post pictures as well. Feel free to pm me as well.

        Marcos,

Based on this being a 2009 12" heavy red brass horn, I would guess that it is near identical to my 2009 300mm heavy red brass Virtuoso (except bell diameter). This vintage had the main tuning slide stop rod on the inside pointing up so the rod does not get caught on your belt/pants. It also has the very heavy trigger spring and screw barrel trigger linkage. It "probably" also has the Bauerfeind valveset (pictures will confirm this). If so, this is a good vintage, though the trigger linkage has been improved greatly with the newer horns. I have a set of the extra heavy 1-2-3 bottom valvecaps and find them NOT useful (unlike the Besson). The standard caps with nipple are preferable.

I was asked for photos of where the tuning mechanism is attached to the 3rd valve slide, so here they are.

                Reasonable offers entertained.

                Thanks,
                Mike

Is this still available? I need a horn before I go off to college in 3 months. I'll be majoring in Music Ed. Currently playing on a school-owned Besson Sovereign.

                      Euphh. Welcome to the forum.

I don't know if the horn is still available. In case he doesn't check the forum frequently, I would suggest you click on his name 'miketeachesclass' above and send him a private message. He should get an email that he's recv'd a PM (private mssg).
