Parts for a Boosey & Hawkes 1956 Imperial Euphonium

Just bought and picked up a 1956 Boosey & Hawkes Imperial Euphonium. Bought it on eBay through a listing Dave Werden posted in the For Sale section.

Excellent horn and will write a review shortly. Right now, I need some parts. I need basically all of the felts, pads, corks, etc. for the valves and water keys. Some are sort of okay, most are worn out or missing. I do not know what the basic load is for the valves regarding pads, felts, cork pads, etc. Does anyone know what should be there on this horn, and even more important, does anyone know where I can get these parts? Hopefully in the United States. I see some stuff for sale from Britain, but some do not ship to the US and some charge about a months wages for postage.

Would sincerely appreciate any help anyone can provide for finding the correct parts. I also need a lyre screw, the lyre holder is there, but the screw is missing.

You might try Oberloh in Seattle for your parts.

I know they are located in the UK, but I would give Brass Fix a go.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/brass-fix...p2047675.l2559

I am not sure about how much they charge for US postage, but it would I assume be about the same for Australian postage. I have been dealing with them for the past year and they are great.

I am not sure how different a '56 Imperial is to a Sovereign in terms of part dimensions, but I assume some would be interchangeable. I am particularly going off an eBay listing of a 1960's era Imperial so there shouldn't be any major differences.

    Piston Felts/Finger Button Felts:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BESSON-SO...item3ca087f155

These should fit your Imperial easy.

    Spring Dampeners
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BLACK-RUB...item51ac73f45e

I am not 100% sure if these would fit. I assume they would being your Imperial is 4-valve comp. If they don't, then they aren't necessary. Maybe give the baritone dampeners a go instead. They might fit better.

    Springs
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SHHHhhhhh...item3f378a5178

Normal Sovereign springs should hopefully fit. These are SHHHhhhprings that are quieter and lighter, however original ones are available. I would also suggest Mead Springs, but that is if you prefer them.

    Lyre Screw
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lyre-Box-...item3f43af2b02

This should hopefully fit an old Imperial.

    Waterkey Cork
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-X-WATER...item51abe7c13a

Very generic. Will fit an Imperial. Only 2 which is fine for your instrument.
Optional: Top Cap Felts (Prestige style):
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BESSON-EU...item519a4d2c33

These are optional but I have them on my Sovereign and they seem to work alright. These are the thin type so that they don't interfere as much with the finger button. Thought I would put a link to them anyway.

Have a look at these to see what you think an contact them to see if they know if these parts will fit an Imperial. Brass Fix also provides service kits that include springs, felts, corks and dampeners. Here is a link in case you are interested. Generally they are more cheaper.

    Hope this all helps.

Oberloh is closed on Monday. Brass fix is a great group to do business with. While you're at it, ask Dan to fabricate some nylon valve guides for that horn.

No need as Willson nylon tacquets will screw in direct, and there will be no valve modification required. I cannot remember the part number however!
