    Leather Hand Guards

    Hello!

Several years ago I ordered two hand guards (3rd valve slide and hand bar) for my Yamaha 842S from Leather Specialties Co. Unfortunately, I could never get the third valve guard to fit properly and the hand bar guard has become tattered beyond repair from years of usage. The only solution is to of course order new guards, but I feel like both of the items that I ordered, although specifically listed for the Yamaha 842S, did not fit as well as other guards I have seen on other makes of euphoniums.

Does anyone know of any other dealers of leather guards for brass instruments?

Are there any other euphonium guards on the LSC website intended for other models that will work well with the 842S?

And lastly, if none of the above, does anyone have any helpful tips for making their own leather guards?

Thank you in advance, tubaeuph forum!

  2. On a thread not too long ago there was some discussion on making leather hand guards. The thread link is http://www.dwerden.com/forum/showthr...)#.V2LoJvkrLIU

The link that was given for instructions on making them is http://forums.chisham.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=64780

You can thank 58mark if this helps

Considering the perfect title, and the fact that the company I wish to discuss is mentioned, I figured I'd revive this thread. (only two posts deep, after all)

I was able to submit and receive an order from LSC (Leather Specialties Company). Additionally, I have a second order in that has been acknowledged and is being worked on.

It seems they are definitely open for business for product they already have patterns for. Haven't been able to get them to bite on facilitating guards for additional horns though (YET!).

3M and/or Scotch makes an adhesive-backed soft (puffy) grip tape that I began using in the 80s on my Yamaha's grip because it decreased the energy required to hold the horn by that skinny, slick bar.
They still had it available in the early 2000s, because I had the same issue with the bar on a Yamaha baritone.
It holds up really well, doesn't affect the silver finish, doesn't wiggle/slip/move, and adds just enough gription, thickness, and cushion.
If they still make it, might be worth trying.

I think the purpose of the leather guards are at least half form (and half function). They look NICE.
