Thread: Old OLD recordings

  1. Old OLD recordings

I am looking for recordings of the earliest variety of wind bands and euphonium. In particular I am looking for an early recording of Second Suite in F major by Holst. Any info? Think early to mid 1900s.

  2. Have you tried YouTube? I find many old recordings in a variety of genres that people have posted when I need to look up something for either pleasure or performance preparation.

I don't know in witch country you live but in France, we have this :

Maybe you can found it in the National Archives of your state ?
    I found this :

It seems you have to search in the U.K.
(It's not the good cover below, I don't know how to remove it !)

Good luck on this! It could be interesting to hear a style closer to when the suite was written. The oldest recording I've heard myself is the Eastman Wind Ensemble from the 1960's. I could suggest reaching out to the USA military bands for starters. Also, there must be a good source in Great Britain for archive recordings.
