I guess in this case I don't live in fly-over country. I live in never-gonna-fly-that-far country. Darn.

And Black Dyke will be in NYC on march 19! An embarrassment of riches this spring for brass band fans! I already have my ticket for the MABBF but now that I see there are two different programs, I'm going to have to go to one of the others as well. Thanks, Rick.

Don't these bands know that there's western portion of our country that would also appreciate the opportunity to hear them?!

Don't know if ticket availability will be a problem later.

Thanks, Rick! That's a good teaser. Those of you who are able to see them, DO NOT miss the chance. This band, and any of the top British brass bands, have to be heard live to really understand the art form. My observations in general have been that you will hear terrific ensemble, where the band moves together note-to-note but also in dynamics. And their use of dynamics is general more "facile" than our best concert bands. They are also very expressive musically.

Relating to our topic of moving while you play...
The cornet soloist shows that you can play a hard piece without a lot of movement. Even Glyn does not move much, although his playing is very moving. (He demonstrates nicely that rich Sterling sound, too.)

I found out that my son and grandson will be attending their concert on the 16th in Raleigh. My grandson plays euph in Enloe HS band and their band dir has been promoting this event. I told them they're in for a real treat. Enloe HS has an excellent band program. Last year they shared a concert with UNC at Greensboro - which I got to watch on YouTube.

I really enjoyed the concert. Cory did a fantastic job to a sold out house of over 1,300 people. My only wish would have been for a little more serious programming, but it was the perfect concert for the audience, which had many, many middle and high school student musicians and their parents.

I'm surprised they didn't play a contest piece or at least a part of one like "Year of the Dragon" (Sparke) or one by Peter Graham. I would have liked hearing something like that.
