    Kelly Mouthpieces

So, I just got a Kelly-51D for marching band this season, but upon sticking it in my horn it bottomed out... I ordered the large shank model for my large shank marching horn, but doesn't fit the large shank, and also does not fit in at all in any small shank horn I have. Could this be a medium shank piece or just a mistake or even a mismatch of horns?

    Any ideas?

Does it bottom out in your Adams? If so, then it is almost certain that it was a marking/packaging mistake and you have a medium-shank model.

Yes, on my Adams it bottoms out completely and does not seat at all. On the marching horn(yamaha large shank model) it goes all the way to the end of the shank and creates some seal but not perfect by any means.

Thank you for your response Dave, I don't own, or know someone readily available that owns, a medium shank horn that I could use to confirm a mix up in the product that was sent.

The Kelly website lists both shank sizes available with the Euro Shank corresponding to a receiver diameter of .51 and the Large Shank to a receiver of .55
Perhaps a caliper to check, but seems certain they sent you the wrong one or else this would be a more widespread reported issue. Good luck!

Can you clarify where I need to measure?
