    Empire Brass from 1976 - 1978

Well maybe not a live recording but...

Every once in awhile I find something really worthwhile on TubeNet. Today was the day!!

Someone shared three links to Empire Brass recordings that were recently uploaded to YouTube. These are no longer in print (from 1976 to 1978 I believe and probably on vinyl). The Empire Brass has been one of my favorite brass quintets for a long time. Sam Pilafian on tuba sounds awesome!

"Russian Brass", "Baroque Brass A" and "Baroque Brass B".

    Here's the link:

Scroll down to the last post in the tread and you'll see three links.

    Enjoy.

Good stuff, Rick! My favorite album is the first one I bought, the American Brass Band Journal. The Empire Brass was augmented for this one. Lots of old American music and arrangements from the period. Check out the samples on this page and you'll see what I mean.

Been listening to the Russian Brass over the last week. Rolf Smedvig was one helluva trumpet player. Always looked forward to his concerts out here in the Seattle area.
