    FS: B&H 1975 Round Stamp Sovereign 3 Valve (same bell/bore as 967)

Hi, I'm selling a Sovereign 3 Valve. It is compensating. As stated, the bell and bore is the same as a B&H 967. It has a 12 inch bell and takes a large shank mouthpiece. I have shown all the noticeable dents in the pictures. One that is harder to see in the pictures but easier to see in person is a dent in the outer bow near the main tuning slide, next to the waterkey. I am honest with the horns I sell and I want you to be thoroughly satisfied with the horn I sell.

The Besson Sovereign 967, and especially the round stamp version, sound is a unique sound, much desired, but the horn that makes that sound is quite heavy. This is a rare chance to have the classic Round Stamp 967 sound in a much lighter 3 valve package!

It plays and sounds very similar to my 4 valve version, a 1980 B&H 967, also a round stamp. In fact, this 3 valve one is more open sounding and it takes less effort to get the same big sound. That's probably a product of the less plumbing of the 3 valve system. It comes with a very good condition, newer Besson case. It has some scuffs but the latches are tight and the hinges work great.

The slides and valves all work well. The valves are in very good condition with no leakage. They are stainless steel, like the modern ones and all 3 pistons have nylon guides. Between the nylon guides, Mead springs, and spring dampers, the valves are very quiet!

Shipping is at cost, but should not exceed $50.

    Price is $1100.

I will also include an extra set of spares, 6 Besson euphonium felts (synthetic gray kind)
2 waterkey corks, and 3 light valve springs.

Also, if you are dissatisfied with the horn for any reason, please return it within 14 days of your receipt of the horn, in the same condition, please. I am located in the New York City area, for those who would like to try it/ buy it in person.

Pick any of the following to go with the horn: (all are large/bass trmbn shank)
    SM6
    SM6U
Alliance E4 (similar size to Wick 5AL)

or if you already have a favorite large shank, have a medium shank 4AM for free with the horn.

Just as a comment... When I was in the CG Band with Danny Vinson and we were both playing Sovereign 967's, he had a chance to try one of these horns. Danny got really enthused about how well it played. If you don't need to 4th valve, it is absolutely an option worth considering!

Yeah I almost considered keeping it and selling my 967, because of the more open and free-blowing nature of the 3 valve version. But I figure that I'll grow into using the 4th valve more often. Both of them play amazingly!

I will now include the Mead Springs in the above euph for free. This horn plays amazingly!
Also with the new nylon guides and with Mead springs, valve action is quick, secure, and quiet!

I think I just bought this horn on eBay from coolguy. I'm really looking forward to getting it.

I'm pretty sure this is the model I played in highschool back in the late 70's - although I know we had the Besson version. Based on the photos though, it is the horn.

I remember the band director warning me that if I lost or destroyed it I would owe the school $1600...which I guess is close to the $5-7k a new Sovereign costs adjusted for inflation.

I'm playing a Yamaha 321 which is actually already a much better euphonium than I am a player. I've just started playing again after 30+ years away! However, I couldn't resist the romance of being reunited with the favorite horn from my youth!

I just hope it is everything I remember!

I can't wait - it is like Christmas in July!

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll enjoy the horn. My former section-mate in the Coast Guard Band, Danny Vinson, really loved this model.
