Thread: Love my horn

  1. Love my horn

After forty years of student level horns, I just picked up a B&H Sovereign. It's a 3 valve compensating, whoever heard of that? But absolutely love it. I'm really not all that good, but I do love to play. I've just joined this forum and look forward to picking up all sorts of tips and info.

Good for you! Those are sweet horns for folks who don't need to play in the register where only a 4th valve can work. The 3-valve compensating system is a satisfying design to play. It provides good intonation on the troublesome 123 combination (and 13 also). Here is an article where you can learn how it works:

It's a great horn, bidding ended at $1426 and worth every penny. I've been told the original owner was a professional musician in Buffalo, NY. What is amazing is that there were no scratches on it. How did he do that? The horn is heavy too, very substantial metal. I'm very lucky. I've been practicing daily, trying to be worthy of the horn.
