    Color Change on Mouthpiece

    Hello everyone,

I have noticed that every euphonium mouthpiece I have played has turned a black/purpleish color on the inside of the cup. I used to play trumpet and this did not cause as great of a change in color as it does on the euphonium. All of the mouthpieces I have played on have been silverplate and I have never tried a gold mouthpiece. I am just wondering if anyone here knows why this occurs. Thanks for your time.

Gotta be some kind of chemical reaction based on your body chemistry or what you eat/drink. Do you dry the inside of the cup before putting away the mp? It's a good idea. Also, are you storing it in the horn's mp holder or in a separate pouch? Could be something there, so try storing it differently for a while.

I have not tried drying out the mouthpiece, but I will in the future. At the moment, I store my mouthpiece in the mouthpiece holder in the case as I do not have a seperate pouch, so I can not try changing that. Thank you for the advice.
