As part of my research on World War II, I am reading through the wartime Life Magazines, which are available as free downloads through Google Books. On file page 16 (magazine page 14) of the July 6, 1942, there is a picture of the Marine Band in block formation, ostensibly playing the National Anthem. There are two double-bell euphoniums clearly visible in the picture
