We've had a lot of cheap euph threads.

What is the most expensive euph these days, and does anyone own and play one?

    Excellent topic!! ;-)

Isn't that Inderbinen horn in the five-digit range?
Wonder how many they might have made on speculation?

There was another German horn with compensating rotors, IIRC, or some such setup, that was also in the five-figure category.

Don't know a soul who plays either one.

I have the Miraphone 5050 Ambassador. The price was equivalent to the purchase of a small Micronesian Island, but it was worth every penny.

    Euphs:

Wessex Travel (Tornister) Euphonium 'Maly' ER154
    Yamaha 201 Baritone

Dan, Jim is right about the Interbinden. Their website lists the price in Swiss Francs equal to more than $14,000 US dollars. Your Miraphone is a relative bargain!

Wow, never thought of the 5050 as being a 'bargain horn'. Ha! That's the one I'd like to get. I'll have to look up the Interbinden model.

I guess they wouldn't price that horn for that price unless there was a market? I feel like a got a "deal" on my miraphone considering that price and the fact that the 5050 has gone up in price since I bought mine.

Don't forget to deduct VAT from the price if you're not resident in Switzerland.

Also, Inderbinen's current published price list has the euph at € 9170, as compared to the € 9500 MSRP ($12,450, which is LESS than the $13,159 MSRP of the 5050) quoted on the websit. Ex. VAT, the price drops to around € 8400.

Previous inquiries re: their Sera flugel and tenor trombone suggest a further reduction of 12-15% can be negotiated, dropping the price to the € 7170-7425 ($9400-9700) range.

FWIW, the MSRP of the Lätzsch compensator is € 11,900 (€ 9640 ex. VAT).

You assume correctly. You don't see that too often, but it's not unheard of. I remember a King trombone model that had a sterling bell, and I think I've seen trumpets with the same feature. Paul at Sterling Brass used to offer one on the euphonium but dropped it when he began having trouble obtaining heavy-enough stock that it could be soldered neatly (it's soft, and can melt from heat of the soldering torch).

I'm not sure if Schilke still offers the Canadian Brass euphonium (perhaps as special order?). It was based on the Willson 2975 front-valve compensating euphonium. For a while I think the Canadian Brass toured with horns that were all gold plated. Now that might be the path to a really expensive euphonium!
