Swirls marks in laquer after cleaning

I just gave a Yamaha 201, which has a laquer finish, a bath before returning it to a school. I rinsed it out with warm water, then put in some diluted Palmolive liquid soap, brushed it out, gave it a good rinsing, then dried it off with a microfiber cloth. Now I see that there are swirl looking marks on the bell, like the sheen of oil on water. This is just on the bell, my thought was that it is just oil residue from in the horn so tried to rub it off with a moist microfiber cloth but it is still there. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Use a clean old T-shirt and some pledge furniture wax. This will clean up any residue on the lacquer (and make the horn smell nice too!).

You need to be careful with lacquer that the water is not too hot. Also, never use a brush on the lacquer surfaced finish. The brush can scratch lacquer that has been softened by water that is too hot.

Swirls marks in laquer after cleaning

I have been trying to find pledge furniture wax, but all I have found is the spray for dusting- is this what you mean? I have found wood wax from other brands which are more of what I thought you meant, a rub on substance like a salve.

The horn is definately not scratched, but the laquer is discolored. I read through the posts on this forum on how to clean a horn and thought I was very careful about not using water that was too hot. I used a movable shower nozzel and made sure I could comfortably hold my hand under the water each time before I wet down the horn, I would say the water was warm- so how hot is too hot?

Thank you for your help and taking the time to respond.

Yes I mean the Johnson's Lemon Pledge furniture dusting stuff. Works great on lacquer horns.
