    Getting rid of scratches

    Hey forum,

I just got my new Yahama YEP 642 from my school, a used one, but its COVERED in scratches. The scratches aren't deep, but they are in the 100's. How do I polish this up so I don't have a pet peeve while using this new horn?

Silver or lacquer? If silver, there is not much you can do. If you polish hard enough to smooth the scratches then you are taking off considerable finish around them. If lacquer, you could try a lacquer polish. Usually this will shine up the bare brass "inside" the scratch that is making the scratch more obvious. It may also coat the brass a little bit and help keep it from tarnishing again too soon.
