Well...my summer is planned. I thought I'd share what will be a busy couple of months of "euphanizing":
Last week of June: Travel to MD to work on Tre Canzone with Jerry Ascione (see below)
July 2 - 6: I will be travelling to California (from MA) to attend a family reunion and memorial service for my older brother.
July 10 - 17: Attending Mike Milnarik's Cosmopolitan Tuba and Euphonium Workshop in Kutztown, PA. Guest artists/teachers include: Rick Benjamin (tuba), Matthew K. Brown (tuba), Marty Erickson (tuba), Adam Frey (euphonium), Roland Froescher (euphonium), James Gourlay (tuba), John Metcalf (euphonium), Michael S. Milnarik (tuba), Demondrae Thurman (euphonium) and Lauren Veronie (euphonium). The camp extends for 2 weeks (primarily for the HS and college folks) but I am doing just the 1st week. I am very excited to get to meet Lauren Veronie and Demondrae Thurman.
July 23 - August 7: Two weeks in England and Wales for the 4th time. This year I will be visiting Trevor Groom, Charlie Brighton, and aul Riggett again. IBBSS starts on Sunday, July 31 through Sat. August 6. I fly back home on the 7th.
August 11: Gala summer concert with the New England Wind Symphony. This year, I will be one of the guest soloists, performing Tre Canzone Italiana, arranged by Jerry Ascione, former conductor of the US Navy Band Commodores and solo pianist with the US Navy Band. Jerry wrote this unpublished work for Roger Behrend and the USNB. He also will be guest conducting the accompaniment. It consists of three operatic arias (I am playing #2 and #3) with variations. Jerry is also composing original works for this concert and the next one on September 11. I am working hard! PRESSURE!
It has been great to have the month of June off in order to practice and relax. Best wishes to all. I will generally be "off the net" for most during July and August.
Doug
