    Brittish brass band set-up

The number I remember is 28 members. Here's a link that should help with the instrumentation or setup:

    British-Style Brass Bands
    Rick Floyd
Miraphone 5050 - Warburton BJ / RF mpc
    YEP-641S (recently sold)
    Doug Elliott - 102 rim; I-cup; I-9 shank

"Always play with a good tone, never louder than lovely, never softer than supported." - author unknown.
Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches
El Cumbanchero (Raphael Hernandez, arr. Naohiro Iwai)
    Chorale and Shaker Dance
    (John Zdechlik)

Depends a bit on the exact rules of competition. NABBA (North American Brass Band Association) rules limit one to 28 brass players and upt to 5 percussionists (depending on the piece) on stage. The English National Chapionships state that a maximum of 25 brass players, plus percussionists and conductor may take the stage.

    The instrumentation generally is:

    One Eb Soprano cornet
Four or five Solo Bb cornets - part is often divisi, up to 3 distinct parts
    Two 1st Bb cornet
    Two 2nd Bb cornet
    One Repiano Bb cornet
    One Bb fleugelhorn
    One solo Eb tenor horn
    One 1st Eb tenor horn
    One 2nd Eb tenor horn
    One 1st Bb baritone
    One 2nd Bb baritone
Two Bb euphoniums (part is often divisi)
    One 1st Bb trombone
    One 2nd Bb trombone
    One 3rd Bb trombone (optional)
    One Bass Bb trombone
    Two Eb tubas
    Two Bb tubas
    Three or more percussion

All parts are in treble clef EXCEPT the bass trombone part.

    As far as layout:

Front row (from conductors left to right) is: Solo Cornets, Fleugel horn, Tenor horns, Baritones, Euphoniums
Second row is: Eb cornet, 1st cornets, 2nd cornets, Bb tubas, Eb tubas, Bass trombone, 2nd trombone, 1st trombone.
    Third Row is percussion

    Hello there,

I am in a Salvation Army style fellowship band in Sacramento, CA. With our precussion section, we are normally right around 30 members, not including the bandmaster. We are pretty much on par with tradition except that our baritones all use euphoniums except for one guy. We make it work. If we were ever to become more serious, we would probably get ahold of some real baritones somewhere. We love what we do and enjoy our ministry.
