    announces the following vacancy for the 2011/2012 season

    PRINCIPAL TUBA
    (one year position September 2011 – June 2012)


    National Auditions will be held Wednesday March 30, 2011, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

    Current wages and conditions for this position:

    Weeks: 38 weeks (includes 3 vacation weeks)
    Salary: $53,247.50
    Benefits: life and disability insurance, dental plan, AFM/EPW pension - 10%

    The musicians of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra are Canadian members of the American Federation of Musicians.

    I don't know if you looked carefully at the date, but the audition was held on march 30th. Peder Maclellan was offered the position.

    Thanks for raising the issue, but I wanted to post the notice anyway. I have always considered this section to serve two purposes. 1) To announce an upcoming audition, and 2) to be a repository for the repertoire required at auditions.

    It seems I've heard a lot of questions inquiring about the type of music that is generally asked for. The problem with announcements posted online is that they disappear after a while.

    And thanks for announcing the winner. I hadn't gotten that word.

    (So don't anyone send in an application in this case!)

    I am curious if Ellis Wean is retiring, taking a year leave or what?

    I don't know for sure about Ellis, but I think he is retiring. He has been working as a professional tubist for 40 years!

    I remember hearing about Ellis Wean in the late 60s when I was in High School. He was an enfant terrible at that time. Forty years is a long time to play in orchestras!
