Have heard good things about this mp. Is there anyone out there who uses them? if so what are they really like?

I've ordered on and a few days ago got the notice it had shipped from the UK. Hasn't arrived yet. Alliance uses the same numbering system as in their previous mouthpieces, so I ordered a 2, which is the same size as the Wick SM3 & 3AL.

The last week or so I have been using a new Doug Elliott, a Euph 104 J cup, with a 9 shank, and a narrow 105 rim -- which plays very, very well. The new Euph line is good.

It's a typo. The image file name is smaple.jpg

The pic is 2218x3327 pixels, so you'll probably want to download the pic and open it from your desktop.

    Childs 2 came yesterday.

Beautiful design, very fine silver plating.

Interesting mass distribution, more towards the cup than say the DE or standard Wick designs.

SM3 rim size. Feels right-sized on face, while, say, the same size SM3U feels small on face.

V cup, shallower than SM3, 3AL, etc. Maybe about like a 4AL cup with a more pronounced V.

Blows very freely, very open, great response. A soloists mouthpiece for someone who has to be able to play high and fast.

After one hour playing the piece (which is not enough PT for any real evaluation), downside is i do not feel I get the richness of tone I like.

    Tried te DC2 and 3.

I feel the mouthpieces are great for high register stuff. But as already stated I'm missing the warm sound I get from the SM3U I normally use. For me the DC4 works great on my Trombone. So that's where I use it for know.

I agree, Tim -- the DC mouthpiece has an electrifying brilliance (not brightness as usually though of) in the high register. I've been recording myself playing it vs. the SM3U. The DC is quite special, but the SM3U is better all around, for the warmth you mention. For me, anyway.

I think the DC mouthpiece would be on heck of a piece to use to play American circus marches. Might also be a really good piece for Jim to play French horn parts on.
