Baritone in Alternative music (Modest Mouse)

I was perusing the interwebs a couple weeks ago and came upon this picture.

I can't seem to find where I found it though!

I've never seen a Rock/Alternative band use a euph or bari before.

What are some bands you've seen that use a brass instrument?

    1938 H.N. White Model 1171 - Omega 12C and Blessing 6 1/2 AL-S
    2008 Weril H980 - Shilke 51D
    MU Wind Ensemble

"Some things are prized only due to rarity. Rarity creates their value, but not the euphonium. The euphonium will not be remembered by history. Because of this, we play each note like it is our last." - Matthew Tropman

This band looks a bit like the progressive oldtime string band known as the "Red Clay Ramblers" who definitely used trombone and trumpet from time to time.

    They were a great band!

I've been to see Cake a number of times, and they make extensive use of their trumpet player who was a founding member.

Are you guys familiar with them?

When I was in high school, we had several local bands that used horns. I sat in on bass with one group a couple of times. Anyone ever play in a band that used brass?

There's a band called Beirut -- the main guy's name is Zach Condon (actually, it looks like that might be him in the photo you posted?) -- anyways, he is a baritone player and there are all sorts of low brass instruments all over his recordings. The playing isn't wonderful, but it's kind of charming in a low-fi way. I really enjoy the music! There's a bunch of their stuff on youtube...

The band I used to play in, Extra Action Marching Band, sometimes joined alternative bands on-stage, David Byrne on several occasions, and Arcade Fire once. The night with Arcade Fire, we were also going to join Modest Mouse for their last song, but they ran over their time limit and got yanked off stage before they got to the last song. I at least got to have dessert with them
