The Boys of the Old Brigade

Just found this interesting march on the Marine Band's website where you can download some FREE mp3 files here:
to save mp3, right click on play or pause, then save as, etc.

After the intro, the low brass has the melody in the first strain. The second strain the higher voices take the melody while the low brass has a counter melody (listen to the tubas). In the Trio, the euphoniums have a beautiful and challenging counter melody.

According to the liner notes, this was recorded at the Interlochen Bowl Music Camp June, 1978; George W. Wilson, conducting.

I have played this song in the local community band. I found it extremely challenging to learn in one night but it is an excellent piece for the euphonium.

I remember playing that one, and it's really fun. Attached are the TC and BC euphonium parts for those who like a challenge!

Thanks Dave. I'll have to check this out.

I corrected the link in post above. If you want to save the file as an mp3, 'right-click' on play or pause button, etc.

Here's another link to YouTube version:

Thanks for providing the Treble Clef version and the Youtube link. This will be a good summer project :-) I've printed the part and converted the file to an mp3. As I am an amateur, my next step is to place the mp3 file into the Amazing Slowdowner app which adjusts the tempo without changing the pitch.

Played this while in the 298th Army Band in Berlin, mid-1980s. Under the baton of CW3 David M. Smith (RIP). Great march, especially for us euphers.

FYI, Cimarron should be publishing my euphonium-tuba quartet arrangement of this later this year. I'm doing a collection of marches for a book, but they may be offered individually as well. I'm going for diversity in composers. The tentative list is:

              R.B. Hall
              Klohr
              Alford
              Teike
              Goldman
              Fillmore
              Chambers
              Jewell
              Johannes Hanssen (maybe)
              Sousa
