The Boys of the Old Brigade

Just found this interesting march on the Marine Band's website where you can download some FREE mp3 files here:

After the intro, the low brass has the melody in the first strain. The second strain the higher voices take the melody while the low brass has a counter melody (listen to the tubas). In the Trio, the euphoniums have a beautiful and challenging counter melody.

You can listen or download "The Boys of the Old Brigade" by W. Paris Chambers here: It's part of the Bicentennial Collection. Scroll down to track 10.

According to the liner notes, this was recorded at the Interlochen Bowl Music Camp June, 1978; George W. Wilson, conducting.

I have played this song in the local community band. I found it extremely challenging to learn in one night but it is an excellent piece for the euphonium.
