    DCI

I'm really excited about going to see the DCI bands this year in my marching band at my school. were going down to Atlanta to see them as a fun trip. So anyone who has been in one tell me what it's like.

The number one rule of DCI is that you refer to it as Drum Corps and not band.

You'd be amazingly surpirsed how sensitive they can be about this...

Thank you Nuck81! I marched Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corp last year and it is a MAJOR insult to call it a "Marching Band".

The experience is a once in a lifetime feeling! It is loud and sublime! If you have sensative ears then I recommend bringing ear plugs. The closer to the 50 yard line the better the drill formations you will see and being higher in the stand will better blend the sound/projection.

I hope you have a great time at the show!

P.S. I will also be at the Atlanta, Georgia show!

DCI competition is awesome to see and hear. All of the corps that make it to the finals to compete are excellent! I've been to two competitions (as spectator) in the past 20 years.

I played in a Drum & Bugle Corp (back when bugles got some credit too) when I was in the Air Force at Keesler AFB. It was in the mid '60s before DCI was formed. We all played 'G' bugles then (2 valves). For the year I was there, I had two roommates... one who had played (contra bass) with the Madison Scouts and one who played (soprano) with the Cavaliers. We weren't anywhere near the level the corps are now, but it was a good experience.

So have you all seen this video, which is a musician from a drum & bugle corps, playing Carnival of Venice on baritone bugle?

I've had quite a few students go on to Drum Corps after High School. A couple of college kids that helped our marching band last year are marching with the Scouts this year.
