Critiques?
My school performed the song "By Loch and Mountain" and I was hoping I could get some critiques on my solos. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Very nice Sean! You used good phrasing technique with a very nice tone. I don't know this piece, but I suspect your solo starts as a cadenza? Your tempo was good and not rushed. Intonation was good too. Nice job!

Sean,
That was very nice! You show nice long phrases and play smoothly. It seemed to create just the right mood for this solo.
If I had one piece of advice, I would say to create a bit more distinction between notes where you articulate repeated pitches. If you listen to the recording you can see they are barely separated from the microphone's perspective. Depending on where an listener sits in the hall, they might not even realize that there are individual notes on the same pitch, but would just hear one lone note. Use just a bit more air on the front of each new note (not more tongue). If fact, sometimes I have students practice a phrase like that and not use their tongue at all - make the repeated notes heard just by using a bit more "gut" on the front of each one. Then go back and tongue normally to give that extra bit of clarity to the notes.
Keep up the good work!

Very nice! I think you have a very fine wind ensemble as well!

Sean,
You should be very proud of this accomplishment. Your solo was very enjoyable and you highlighted well to the audience the beautiful sound the euphonium possesses. Nice work.
