Where to get a good used trombone

    Hi,

Kinda off topic but... I'm looking for a decent used trombone preferably a tenor trombone with f-attachment for me to double on. I live in the Vancouver area. Anybody know where I might be able to pick one up either local or online without having to worry too much about the trombone being sent to me being a complete dog? Thanks~

You might want to contact DJ Kennedy (do a member search) over on www.tromboneforum.org. He deals with lots of used horns and I've only heard glowing comments about his honesty and knowledge of trombones. He is in the US but if you know what you're looking for, he can probably find it.

I believe that PrototypeDENnis, who posts here and on TubeNet, is located in Manitoba. From some of his posts, it appears that he's a repair tech or works in a shop that does musical instrument repair. Given the cost and potential hassles of importing even a used instrument into Canada, it might be worth contacting him to ask if he knows any used musical instrument dealers in your area.

It also might be worth calling around to pawn shops in your area to see if/what they have available. That would give you the opportunity to visit the shop and try the horn out before before buying.

    And, of course, there's ebay.ca.

Just an off-the-wall thought: I assume you have a Salvation Army band near you. If so, you could contact them. They might have a lead.

Also, there is the Vancouver Area Brass Band Society: http://vabbs.org/ If you go to that site, check out their links page. They have links to other brass bands. There is also a link to I Trombini, a quartet in your area. Someone there might have a lead for you.

    It's always good to network!

    I'm a bit far so I'd recommend Ward/L&M for a local chain.
I do have a couple of nice horns at the moment.
Otherwise, I've known DJ for a long time. Excellent guy.
I also have a friend I used to work with in WA who I can give you info if you'd like.
any q's email me @ work
