Newly acquired Mirafone, ukn model, 3/4 size tuba

I have a Mirafone 3/4 size tuba with the logo stamped above the s/n (89XX). Between them is stamped STANDARD. I cannot find any refernce to a model such as STANDARD. Is this the model? I would be greatfull for help in determing this. I believe that the horn was built in the early '70s.

    Hi there
It is probably a Mirafone 184
I think they may still be made but they aren't imported here much anymore.
They make a nice quintet horn or are nice for smaller people who really can't use the 4/4 - 5/4 - 6-4 horns so popular now

Thank you ScottM. I have looked at photos of a 184 just after reading your post today. My horn has three verticle piston valves and not such an intricate and overwhelming mass of tubing. Mine is a simple 34 tuba, possibly a student model.

Again thank you for your input.

    Still looking

It's most likely a Miraphone "Perinet" model tuba. They made these for a short run in the 80's, but don't make them any more. They also made these tubas in 4 top-action valves. Perhaps you can find some pictures online, I didn't, but there is a guy in a local community band that has a 4-valve BBb Miraphone Perinet . . . might be able to take a pic for you if you're interested.

Thanks to all who gave it a shot! I have finally had a reply to my inquirry to Mirfone.

My tuba is a BBb model 1270 built in the late 60's they believe, but not sure after that. There records do not go back that far. It has changed to 1271 and now is known as a 1272 with slight changes. Ms Staudinger (at Miraphone eG) states that the newest model still is the same height though.
