    Lip Balm

My doctor just started me on some new meds which has totally dried my lips out. i was wondering if any of you have had particular sucesses with any lip balms that actually work, but don't feel so thick and heavy that it affects you playing. all thoughts appreciated

Maybe something with glycerin? But I'm not sure if there is such a commercial product.

I have used Blistex in the squeeze-tube form (like a little bitty toothpaste tube). It's pretty light.

Application technique may be important. Usually I "wash" my lips with plain water, leaving them slightly damp. Then I put on the lip balm, which helps to seal in the moisture. It doesn't take much.

I can't help think there is something on the market that might be better. Maybe someone else has a good suggestion.

My daughter who plays flute/pic goes back and forth between Burt's Bees pomegranate lip balm and ChopSaver. She swears by them both. She also says neither effects her playing and embrochure. As the one who pays for this stuff both are about $4 a tube/stick which is kinda costly.

I've never tried Chopsaver. It sure ain't cheap, but there used to be another product that lists the exact same ingredients called "Wet your whistle"....it is available at Bath and Bodyworks for around $2.50 per tube. It is the best stuff I've ever tried, and for me is superior to the Burts Beeswax products and Chapstick products. I'm on my last tube, I sure hope it is still available.

the wet your whistle sounds promising. I am using blistex DCT right now because its the only thing that was cheap enough to justify but that other sounds great.

Thanks for the tip. I'll get my daughter a tube and see how she likes it.

I use DCT because its supposed to moisturize your lips and protect it from harmful UV rays because it is SPF 20. It is also quiet popular in the Drum Corp world also. It is very dependable and cheap and I've always used it before I marched and after so its quiet reliable.

Ive tried everything out there it seems and nothing really did the job, and I found that chopsaver actually caused my lips to swell a bit, But I discovered Caswell and Massey which make a number of glycerine based products and a really good lip balm that does what a balm is supposed to do!

I've used Chopsaver and many other competitors, honestly, it's a market of little difference from one brand to the next.
Blistex, Chapstick, Lee's, Burt's Bees, Chopsaver, the Pennzoil stuff I got when I got an oil change... it's all very close in design and use with no clearly defined frontrunners.

Pick a flavour you like and keep it.

I'd like to add the Burt's Bees pomegranate as being superior to chopsaver and is more readily available. Warning, it does leave a tint of red on your lips making you look like you have faint red lipstick!
