I saw this on Ebay and wanted opinions:

I think the seller may be wrong in calling it a euphonium. It looks like a saxhorn, rather than a euphonium.

I run into that problem around here when people call their euphoniums 'baritones'...

Looks like the Couesnon euph shown on Horn-u-copia.

Of course, Horn-u-copia couldn have mis-identified it.

          If you go here

          http://saxhorneuphonium.free.fr/index.php?lng=en

and look at the saxhorn on the page vs. the euphonium on the page, it still seems more likely a saxhorn.

Does being a saxhorn, reduce or raise the value of it? Does it play any differently than a euph?

I've never played one, they are supposed to be a little less conical than the euph, with a sound a slight bit more trombone-like. Have no idea about what that would do the value, though.

Whatever you want to call it, I like the way that they play. Mid way between the modern Baritone and the Modern Euphonium.

The best thing to do is compare in a trade catalogue for Couesnon from the 40's or 50's and see what they called it. It certainly isn't like the Boosey's or Besson Euphoniums from 1950.

I have come across a Couesnon expert in France who contributes to a saxophone forum I belong to:

                  Translated link:

And he mentions his repair man who, by the look of his website he does some amazing work:

                  Restoration of Vintage Instruments

Either might be open to an email approach for information
Edit: I've asked for help to get the sites hyperlinked - can't get code to work somehow...

                  << edited links above >>

                  ... a note to Chris,
When posting hyperlinks, don't change the font or add underlining (this is done automatically). That's what was breaking the link for you. The easiest way to use links it this forum is to use the 'http' icon above (just to the right of the picture) to create links. Click on that icon, then paste the hyperlink in the new pop-up, then click next, then enter a title for the link - or just type 'Link'. That's how I fixed your post. You can edit this post yourself to see the actual format if you want.
