Thread: Marzan euph vs Willson 2975

  1. Marzan euph vs Willson 2975

I recently purchased a Marzan euphonium. I've visited Dan Schultz's website, which (besides having pictures of Marzan tubas and euphs) contains a link to Dr. Fred Marzan's 1971 patent. One Dr. Marzan's main ideas was that a player ought to be able to adjust the tuning slide while playing. (Main tuning slide shown on the outboard side of the horn in the second photo.)

I read somewhere that the Marzan became the prototype for Willson's 2975 left-pointer. I've not seen many of either sort, but suspect the Marzan was made in the 1970s. If anyone has more info on them (particularly how many Marzans were made) I'd like to know about it. The serial number on mine is 7110xx, which might be a Willson number.
