Thread: Capuzzi Concerto for tuba and orchestra

  1. Capuzzi Concerto for tuba and orchestra

I am trying in vain to find an arrangement of the Capuzzi Concerto for Double Bass arranged for tuba and orchestra. I can find tuba and piano and euphonium and orchestra and but sadly not tuba and orchestra. Any help much appreciated.

Capuzzi Concerto for tuba and orchestra

Actually this piece was written for orchestra originally. Perhaps someone else will remember for sure, but I think the original key was D. You could read off the original bass solo part, but you would probably need to adjust octaves when it goes too high.

The most commonly-played version of the Capuzzi for tuba players is the Catelinet Andante and Rondo, movements 2 and 3 of the concerto. He transposed this to the key of E-flat. I have arranged the first movement of this concerto in that same key so players have the option of doing all 3 movements if they also own the Catelinet. Perhaps you are looking for an orchestral accompaniment in that key (?). It seems I remember that there is one floating around, but I can't recall the source.

The double-bass version in D with piano is available here:

The Catelinet arrangement with piano is:

My arrangement of the 1st movement that would go with Catelinet's is:

I did a little looking but could not find a source for the original Capuzzi orchestra version. Does anyone know if THAT is available? Otherwise you can probably find a copy in a music library. The edition you find might be old enough to be in public domain.

  3. Capuzzi Concerto for tuba and orchestra

you might ask Jan Duga of the USAF Band in Washington D. C.
I have a recording of her performing this piece, with the Columbus,Ohio
    Brass Band.
It is not in the same key as the piano arrangement.
