I enjoyed playing Melody Shop so much that I wrote a euphonium-tuba quartet version so I could play the cool parts more often! I broke up the running line between the two euphoniums so the breathing is not a barrier.

When they play Melody Shop at the Army Tuba-Euph Conference, there's always this one guy, I think he's Army, that only uses his first value during all the runs. I guess he figures that's close enough!

I've seen the Melody Shop once for a Minot City Band rehersal. I was yikeesssssss and a half even using every alternate fingering I can to make life easier for me. Thankfully the conductor was wise enough not to pull it out again. I don't know if its possible to play the last strain in one breath without leaving a note out unless one has a small bore euph. or on an older euph (pre 50's?). Kudos to anybody who can play it without faking it. Having said that, Melody shop is cool to listen to.

I remember sight-reading Melody shop with my friend out of my excerpt book. It was a train wreck. its still the hardest march for me to play.

I programmmed Melody Shop with the BU WInd Ensemble last year as part of a program entitled "Cornerstones". My euphonium section(and I) loved it!!!

WOW! I just heard Melody Shop for the first time via the link in the downloads section, and my head hurts just THINKING about having to play it.

And I thought Rolling Thunder (Fillmore) and Entry of the Gladiators (Fucik) were sick!

Speaking of Melody Shop, my school's band is playing it on our next concert. My band director has asked me to stand up and play the running line as a solo. As you can imagine, I'm having trouble on finding places to breathe. Does anyone have any tips on where to breathe, or any other tips on playing it, for that matter?
