One of my students plays one of these horns and it's fabulous, no intonation problems at all. The only problem is the huge sound the horn gets, in smaller groups like quintet it's just a bit too much.

    Kalison CC Tuba

    [From SmartGroups/TubaEuph, by Wayne B]

I had two friends in college who played darryl smith model Kalisons. Don't remember if they were CC or BBb. They too loved the horn, but I do remember on at least one of them, one of the valves/slides was really horrible flat, but not the whole horn. He eventually bought a B&S P-somethin or other, but the other stayed with his Kalison. As far as I know, he never had any major intonation problems. Of course, he was kind of a monster player. Anyway, the "out-of-tune" Kalison was laquer, and was bought used, the other was silver plate and bought new. Hope that helps, even if only a little.

I used to own a Daryl Smith CC and it was a really nice horn. You could really put out some sound with it but as mentioned it was a little much for quintets, etc.
