    The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" announces an opening for Euphonium with the Army's premier musical organization, located 5 minutes from downtown Washington, DC.

    The U.S. Army Concert Band attracts graduates from the finest music schools in the nation. Performance venues include, but are not limited to: The White House, The U.S. Capitol, major national music and education conventions, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and our home concert series at Brucker Hall on historic Fort Myer.

    Auditions
    Auditions will be by invitation only and are held at Fort Myer, Virginia. Please submit a resume, CD recording, and a full-length photograph.

    1.. Technical solo with accompaniment
    2.. Lyrical solo with accompaniment
    3.. Band excerpts
    a.. "Mars" from The Planets - Gustav Holst - Boosey and Hawkes - Rehearsal 5 to 6; Rehearsal 11 to first measure of Rehearsal 12
    b.. "Russlan and Ludmilla" - Glinka/Winterbottom - Boosey and Hawkes - Measure 1 to downbeat of Rehearsal 1
    c.. "Second Suite for Military Band in F Major" - Gustav Holst - Boosey and Hawkes - One beat before letter "E" to downbeat one measure before letter "G"
    d.. "Theme and Variations" - Arnold Schoenberg - G. Schirmer - BARITONE PART; measure 148 through 167
    e.. "When Jesus Wept" - William Schuman - Merion Music - Measure 76, beat three through measure 102
    Please note that submission of your resume, full length photo and CD signifies the first round of the audition process and will be used to select a limited number of candidates who will then be invited to attend a live audition at Fort Myer. Travel expenses will be paid by the U.S. Army contingent upon completion of required documents provided by your local recruiter.

    Completion of these documents in no way signifies enlistment in the U.S. Army but is necessary to help determine eligibility to serve with the Armed Forces.

    Live Audition
    Finalists invited to the live audition will be notified shortly after the August 1st deadline. Repertoire for the live audition will be made available to candidates at this time. As part of the live audition, applicants must demonstrate superlative sight-reading skills.

    The U. S. Army Concert Band - Preparing Your Recording

    If you do not have a way to make a professional recording of yourself, you might want to consider investing in some good equipment. The quality of your recording shouldn't make a difference, but I think it does tend to influence the listener's opinion.
