    What the World Needs Now

In the early 60's, Jackie DeShannon had a hit single of "What the World Needs Now (Is Love, Sweet Love)". The song has been used since then in Mercedes Benz commercials and in movie soundtracks like My Best Friend's Wedding. The first melody statement in the song is a euphonium solo, and the euphonium has some other counter-melody material later in the song.

Does anyone know who played it?

If you want to hear it, there is a sound sample here:

Wow! Dave was it the early 60s? You make me feel very old. I remember hearing it on the radio all time. I've been hunting for the player's name, do you know who it was?

Dick Nash did some baritone stuff on some things in the sixties, like the soundtrack to the movie "Oklahoma Crude". I remember wondering about "MacArthur Park" (with that euph sounding lick in the middle), then I saw a film of the tune with full orchestra. The lick in the middle was played on Wagner tubas!
